Colleagues saving together
Eight people from the same ward, £50 a week; one joined late.
Eight colleagues on the same ward pay £50 a week; each collects £400 in turn, for a deposit, a wedding, school fees. Tunde heard about it after it was set up and asked to join. He wanted an early slot because his rent was due.
The group was happy to have him, but nobody knew him well. They wanted someone to stand behind him for the first rounds.
Two months in, Priya changed jobs and moved away. The group needed to know what happened to her slot, and what she still owed.
What worries them
Letting a late joiner in without knowing them.
What happens when someone leaves halfway through.
Changing the amount when shifts change, without a row.
What Rotaro changes
- Joining by code, with approvalTunde enters the group code, the organiser approves, and he reads and accepts the rules before he is in. A paid place is bought for him before the first payout.
- A guarantor for the early slotThe group's rules ask that the first slots name a guarantor. Tunde picks a colleague who vouches for him, and that colleague is told if a payment is missed.
- Leaving, by the rulesBefore the group starts, a slot simply opens. After it starts, leaving follows the rule everyone accepted, and the organiser or deputy can bring in a replacement.
- Changes everyone agrees toThe organiser suggests a new amount; every member taps Agree or Refuse; the change happens only when everyone has agreed, and only for rounds not yet open.
- Everyone sees the same thingWho has paid, who has confirmed, whose turn is next: the same record on every phone.
Their first steps
