Fair draw
Draw your group’s payout order at random, with a seed you can share so anyone can check the result.
Works in your browser. Nothing you type is kept or sent.
Draw an order
Check a draw
Paste the seed and the names in the order they were entered. The same seed and the same list always give the same order.
How the draw works
Each draw starts from a seed: a long random code made in your browser. The names are shuffled step by step, and each step is worked out from the seed with SHA-256, a standard secure code. The same seed and the same names, in the same starting order, always give the same order, and a different seed gives a different one. That is why you share the seed and the names exactly as you entered them.
This is the same method Rotaro uses when a group draws its payout order in the app. Each draw’s seed, and the members in the order they went into it, are kept on the group’s record.
Check a draw from Rotaro
- In the app, open your group’s payout order and find “Check this draw”.
- Copy the seed and paste it into “Seed” under “Check a draw” on this page.
- Type or paste the names one per line, in the order Rotaro shows them under “Names, in the order they went in”.
- Choose “Check the draw”. The order this page gives is the order the app drew.
When the turns still to come were drawn again, the app shows that draw instead: only the members still waiting for their turn went into it, so the order it gives starts with the next turn to come.
