Questions and answers
Plain answers
Everything here comes from the rules a group agrees and the way the app applies them.
Money
Does Rotaro hold my money?
No. Rotaro never holds, receives or pays out money, and has no wallet. Members pay each other directly, bank to bank. The app records who said they paid, who confirmed it, and whose turn it is.
Is Rotaro a lender?
No. Nobody owes Rotaro anything. Members pay each other, in turn, the amount the group agreed, and nothing is added on top. Someone who needs their lump sum early takes an early turn and keeps paying in for the rest of the rotation.
What do members pay Rotaro?
Nothing. Members never pay more than their contribution, and Rotaro never takes a fee from members' money.
What does the organiser pay?
Small groups are free, with no time limit. A bigger group needs a plan, which the organiser pays for on this website, by bank or by card, through a payment provider. The prices for your country are on the pricing page; they are set per country and never written into the app.
A group whose plan lapses is paused, never locked: reminders and automatic collections wait, but members can still mark and confirm payments, and the record keeps working.
Can Rotaro get my money back if someone does not pay?
No. Rotaro cannot reverse a bank transfer or recover money. What it does is make the record plain to everyone, apply the group's missed-payment rule the same way to everyone, and tell the organiser and any guarantor.
The record
Can the organiser edit the record?
No. Entries are never edited or deleted, by anyone. A mistake is corrected with a new entry that names the one it corrects, and every member sees both. Each entry carries a code of the one before it, so any change would show.
Who confirms a payment?
The member who receives it. The payer marks it, the recipient confirms it, and only then does it count. Nobody confirms their own payment. A payment not confirmed within the group's waiting time goes to the organiser to decide, or to the deputy when the organiser is the recipient.
What if two members disagree?
Either raises a dispute from the payment, with a photo or document as evidence. The organiser or deputy records the outcome, never someone who is a party to the payment, and everyone sees it.
Running a group
What is a deputy organiser?
A member the organiser trusts, who accepts the role in the app. Every group needs one before it starts. The deputy decides a payment made to the organiser, gives the second approval for big changes, and leads the group if the organiser leaves.
How is the payout order set?
Three ways: drawn at random in the app, where anyone can check the draw; set by hand by the organiser, with the deputy's approval; or chosen by the members, each picking an open slot. The order is shown to everyone before the group starts.
Can we change the amount or the rhythm later?
Before the group starts, the organiser or deputy can change anything, and every member is told. Once it has started, a change to the amount, currency or rhythm happens only when every member agrees in the app, and only for rounds not yet open.
What happens when someone stops paying?
A reminder goes out before the due date. A payment not confirmed by then shows as late to everyone, and the organiser and any guarantor are told. After the days the group allows, it counts as missed and the group's rule applies: a flag, a move down the order, or leaving the order after repeated misses. The rules are accepted by every member when they join.
What is a guarantor?
A member who stands behind another member's payments, usually for the first payout slots. The group's rules say whether guarantors are needed and for which slots. A guarantor is told of a miss. It is a promise between members.
Can I be in several groups?
Yes. Your home screen shows every group you are in, its status, and when you collect. Totals are never added across currencies.
Your account and your data
Where is my data kept?
In your own country. Each country is its own deployment with its own database: groups in the United Kingdom stay on servers for the United Kingdom, and groups in Nigeria on servers for Nigeria.
Can I delete my account?
Yes, under Account. It is refused while you are in a group that has not finished. Otherwise it removes your name, contact details, sessions, devices and messages. The groups' shared records keep your entries under "Former member", so the group's history stays correct.
Does Rotaro track me or show adverts?
No. There is no advertising, no tracking across other apps, and no selling of data. This website keeps only your choice of country and look, in your own browser.
Where it runs
Which countries?
The United Kingdom and Nigeria, each with its own pricing, payment ways and servers. Other countries follow later from the same app.
Which phones?
Rotaro runs on the web today, on any phone or computer. The App Store and Google Play versions are coming.
What is Secure Pot?
A later way for a group to run, where everyone pays into one pot held by a regulated partner and payouts happen automatically. It is not available yet. You can join the waitlist from inside the app.
